“I FOUND A CITY (EARLY DEMO)”

Our Endless Numbered Days

Posted in OLD main page on July 27, 2011 by theidealshopper

Today’s entry has an unoriginal title but it’s representitive of how I feel right now. Things are pretty exciting for me right now. I like collaborating through the medium of the internet. Today’s day in age makes it so easy to do so. I’m not trying to say that live collaboration is anything less, in fact it’s better in my opinion. Technology allows things like music to flourish where they may not otherwise.

Why am I getting all sentimental you say? well, it’s my Grandfather. John Gill, 79 years old. He’s not looking to well according to my family and I’m worried I won’t have much more time with this wonderful soul. He was diagnosed only 2 months ago if that. It’s all been happening so quickly and it’s gotten me to be more driven in my musical endeavors. It’s been my goal to release a record BEFORE he dies. One can never know when someone will go though.

If you know John, Give him a call or send him a kind thought. I want him to know he’s loved. Anywho, I love you all too. Keep on keeping on, you never know when it’ll all diminish.

The idea of a musical collective is more tantalizing than ever now. With that said, there’s some fun stuff in the mix. Keep coming back, it works.

“Workdreading”

Posted in OLD main page on July 26, 2011 by theidealshopper

I happened upon Murray Foster’s “Workdreading”.  This song is damn beautiful. something about that wall of sound with sporadic and spastic percussion. Elements of lightning bolt but more…. ethereal? Kind of a silly word for it but that’s the way it makes me feel. This is a gorgeous track that accomplishes the transfer of emotion. The melody has no melody and yet there is a set of notes you can hear. Absolutely gorgeous. Go check out Crowds if you haven’t. This website takes you on a fun little adventure through picture and sound. Also check out “Sewage Runoff” in the music section. this is the laughter, expounded by sound.

So it’s tuesday and there’s not a whole lot more to say. I’m hangin’ out and working on music. I’m trying to sell a speaker cabinet and I feel conflicted about it for my own reasons (Not having anything to do with the actual selling of the speaker cabinet) this is a long story that does not need to be told. Anywho: if you want an AMPEG 8×10 please talk to me (HWYLNS@gmail.com or Jgill1138@gmail.com).

Thanks for stopping by.

I took down the HWYLNS Debut EP. I will post it sometime in the future and hopefully in a better quality format. As for everything else… GET YOU’RE REMIX/COVER ON!

I was talking with a close friend/brother of mine the other day and we got to talking about the concept of having a sort of collective of musicians that release records back to back and play on eachothers records. I’m completely tantalized by this concept.

The way I see it is that the music that’s coming out of your bedroom/practice space/local show is so much more exciting than mainstream arena bands that are recording their 20th album in the studio this year. Well not to over exaggerate because some of those bands are amazing but I’m very excited by the songs you all write and record and post. All for our own reasons. And I feel like it’s so much more genuine than most music.

So what I’m I talking about here? Well, I like the idea of a collective of musicians that release albums affiliated with one another. Collaborate on albums. Guest play on eachother’s songs. Etc. All while retaining their own project and sound. It’s taken me quite awhile to realize this but all of you have such a unique and beautiful sound to bring to the table. When we form bands together we merge those qualities and mold them into something else new. When we stand apart and record our own songs they sound so much different. It’s incredible. What I’m saying here is that I want to talk more about you and your music. I’d like to hope you’ll talk about me too. Then maybe we can get closer and start sharing music more readily. Remix, cover, record, etc. I hope we can get to know eachother better.

Anyhow, that’s my rant for the day. These thoughts were inspired by a wonderful conversation with a close friend the other day. Go check out Matthew Snyder’s completed version of LetThem; Part I. This song reminds me a lot of Ris Paul Ric of Q And Not U fame. “Let the flowers grow where they fucking want!” I love the frank nature of the lyrics. The repeated vocal pattern following is genius. Mr. Snyder’s been posting some consistently beautiful guitar melodies sure to ease that soul of yours.

Good day all. Hope it’s a peaceful one. PMA
